Outdoor Living Space for Relaxing or Entertaining

Outdoor spaces have been in the spotlight more in the past year than ever before as many of us have had to work and study at home. This has resulted in the need to use any outdoor areas to relax in, to take a break. This space is an extension of the home and whether large or small has so much potential but can often be neglected. It can be transformed into a perfect sanctuary or a space for entertaining or both.

I have created this eclectic and colorful mood board incorporating some neutral and some fun colors to enliven an outdoor space.

The color palette I chose uses 2 classic neutrals - a smoky gray and a light gray - and pops of teal and gold to add fun and vibrancy. While the teal ties in the tones of the surrounding environment the gold is about sunshine even on a cloudy day. A neutral sofa, the Rayo from Room & Board, is the foundation piece. This creates an opportunity to mix up the throw pillows by introducing various colors and patterns. The round coffee table has a pretty woven texture and is also neutral in color. I absolutely had to add the Maya Swivel Chairs from Crate and Barrel here. I love their shape, the swivel function and of course, the color! I am a huge fan of an indoor-outdoor area rug in any outdoor space. It enhances the outdoor living room ambiance and softens up a deck, patio or balcony seating area. The Houten Tribal Rug blends all the colors beautifully and is an accent in its own right due to its muted Southwestern pattern with a vintage feel. Notice it has blue in it which is a color in teal. This variation of that family of colors is a way to add layers of interest in a space and not having to match everything exactly. I was excited to find the gold Cooper Bench at Room & Board as it is so versatile (table or seating) and colorful. The Mohave Pouf from Crate and Barrel is irresistible and great for additional seating and is kid-friendly.

This 3D board gives you a sense of the layout. Here you have a space with a few different colors that work beautifully together, textures that enhance the relaxed vibe, and multiple seating options that can be added as needed. Throw in some fun solid and patterned accessories - a tray, some candles, a throw, some potted plants and a must-have bar cart as well as lights for ambience and this space is stunning!

I love this space! Could you see yourself relaxing or entertaining here?
