Guest Bedroom Refresh Ideas: Project Overview
Refreshing a guest room sometimes starts with an unexpected challenge… what do you do when a decades-old wardrobe becomes the key to the room’s entire color palette?"
This guest bedroom refresh transforms a former young adult bedroom into a welcoming guest room.
The room faces north, bringing in cooler natural light throughout the day. With minimal furniture remaining, the space feels almost like a blank slate—an ideal starting point for a thoughtful guest room refresh.
Several existing pieces will remain, including an upholstered bed purchased a few years ago, a nightstand, ceiling light, and the maple-stained wardrobe that is still in excellent condition. Its rich tone creates a striking contrast with the current wall color and the rest of the room, making it an interesting starting point for creating the perfect color palette.
The rug, curtains, and curtain rods—all still in good condition—will be donated.

Guest Bedroom Refresh Color Palette Challenge
One of the key challenges in this guest bedroom refresh is selecting the right paint color while creating a cohesive color palette for the room.
The wall color must work beautifully with the wardrobe’s bold maple finish while complementing the upholstered bed and helping the room feel warm, balanced, and intentional. As a result, the wardrobe is not only the challenge but also the inspiration.
An important part of decorating: making every element feel considered rather than accidental.

Choosing the Right Wall Color for a Guest Room Refresh
Because the room receives cooler northern light, choosing the right guest room paint color is especially important. This cool blue currently on the wall is pretty but in order to give the room a more cohesive look and feel more inviting the paint color needs to change.
A warmer wall color will help create a sense of comfort, softness, and warmth while also softening the contrast of the wardrobe.
For this reason, I have been exploring hues that feel warm and inviting—rosy neutrals with subtle undertones of orange or brown rather than anything overly pink.
The palette is beginning to take shape, and this is where the transformation begins.
More to come as the room takes shape.
